The best known problem in water management in the region is desiccation of the Aral Sea, which was caused by excessive development of water infrastructure and irrigated agriculture. Despite 35 years of efforts to improve transboundary water resources management, Central Asia has numerous old and new water-related problems which make its future challenging and uncertain. Below we present selected documents reflecting those problems and possible solutions.
